VALLE MAIRA - PASSO DELLA CAVALLA

This trek was done August 2nd 2015.
We started at %u201CSorgenti del Maira%u201D and walked clock-wise ( Sorgenti del Maira - Lago Visaisa %u2013 Bivacco Bonelli %u2013 Passo della Cavalla %u2013 Sorgenti del Maira). To reach the start of the trek drive to Saretto (Val Maira, Piedmont, Italy); the road bypasses the village. At the very end of the village turn left where a road sign will indicate Sorgenti del Maira. The sorgenti are 5 minutes away. The road to get there is paved, narrow and windy, as you may have expected. At the end of it there is a large car park. The trail starts at the other end of the car park.
The trail is large and easy to walk, up to Lago Visaisa, then it narrows but is still easy to walk (mostly packed gravel, dirt, and a few stretches of loose gravel and slippery wet dirt). Lago Visaisa is about 100 vertical meters from the trail you are on . We did not go down because we wanted to get to Passo Della Cavalla and such a diversion would have been too much.
We picnicked at Bivacco Bonelli (a small wooden house locked solid) and then we continued to Passo della Cavalla. From there on is all downhill.
This is a demanding walk which requires you to be fit.
The view is breathtaking !!!
Bring water with you because all of the supposedly plenty of sources where ALL dry !!!
